Gigs This Week
This week I've been recording a demo for jazz vocalist Kristine Mills at my home studio. I am engineering and playing upright bass. We have finished tracking, and I am listening to the tracks to see if we will recut anything.
Tonight (Wednesday 3/16) I am playing at Perry's Steakhouse in the Woodlands from 6-10PM. I'll be playing a duo with a jazz pianist I haven't met yet, so it should be interesting... Come by if you and your date are in the mood for a nice $100 dinner.
This weekend I am flying to *beautiful* Midland, TX to play with the Smith Band.

When we return, bring in some suggestions for songs we can learn! We will start preparing for our 1st recording session in the next couple of weeks.

Studio Orchestra This Week
MW Class-- We'll work on the Mirah song "Recommendation" we started on Wednesday. I also want to try "River Deep, Mountain High" (originally by Tina Turner).
Other ideas?? (Also I got my Vocoder working again, so we may have to go back to "Tell Me Something Good")
M Night Class-- "Don't Fear the Reaper", "Till You Come Back to Me" (Aretha Franklin) also had a request to play "Push It" by Salt n Pepa. Why not? Maybe some Marvin Gaye? I'm thinking "Ain't That Peculiar"...
TR Class-- More work on that cool salsa version of "Another Star". We'll tighten up the arrangement and add vocals. We need to try vocals on that original song. Also play "The Seed" by The Roots. Other songs??

Studio Orchestra This Week
Monday-Wednesday Class: On Monday we started working on "Tell Me Something Good" by Rufus. We'll polish it up a bit on Wednesday, and also start "Recommendation" by indie artist Mirah. You can download both of these songs from iTunes if you want to check them out.
Monday Night Class: We lost quite a few people to the Surround Sound Seminar. I heard it was great. Thanks to the faithful few who made it to class. We reviewed the blues classic "Slippin' In" and Bob Marley song " 3 Little Birds". We started a list of songs to try. Next week we'll start in on "Till You Come Back to Me" (Aretha Franklin" and "Don't Fear the Reaper" (Blue Oyster Cult). Get ready to work the studio space.
Tuesday-Thursday Class: On Tuesday we started working on "Where the Streets Have No Name". Classic U2! Also jammed a bit on "The Seed" by The Roots. We'll hit both of those again on Thursday. I'll also bring my camera, as we still don't have any pics from this class! (and it is a handsome bunch...)
